Meet the Core Tutor

Matthew Butler-Hart

Matthew originally trained as an actor but created Fizz and Ginger Films in 2009 - so after appearing in 17 feature films, he finally moved to directing, writing and producing full-time in 2013 when worldwide trade magazine Screen International picked him for their ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ edition.

Since then he has produced ten feature films, five of which he has written and directed, three of which have been seen in cinemas around the world. He has directed a whole host of actors including Sir Ian McKellen, Simon Callow, Alex Hassell, Conleth Hill, Amy Manson, Fisayo Akinade, Matt Barber and Felicity Montague to name a few.

Matthew has also co-authored a book on indie filmmaking, published by Applause (Bloomsbury), ‘Full to the Brim with Fizz, Ginger and Fierce Determination.

He has taught at various top drama schools developing a different way of teaching screen acting, realising that there were huge gaps in real practical knowledge in new actors when they were getting to real film and TV sets.
