Level 1 Acting Course in Cardiff
Our Level 1 course consists of two terms and you may apply for either. The course you are offered will depend on your experience and spaces available.
- For beginners or those without any formal actor training
- For all ages over 18
Typically includes:
- Overcoming Actor’s Block – Explore removing barriers to unlock emotional access and expression.

- Frantic Assembly’s Building Blocks – Learn collaborative methods to create dynamic and engaging performances.
- Ken Rea’s Text Work Methods – Deepen your understanding of script analysis and performance techniques
- Introduction to Shakespeare – Gain confidence in tackling classic texts in a fun and engaging way.

Summary:
Our Level 1B course builds on foundational acting skills, encouraging you to deepen your creative instincts and expand your performance range in a supportive and collaborative environment. Guided by experienced tutors and inspired by influential practitioners, you’ll explore new techniques that challenge both your physical and emotional expression.
The course focuses on unlocking greater freedom in your work — overcoming actor’s block, strengthening movement and physical awareness through Laban, developing collaborative devising skills inspired by Frantic Assembly, and refining script analysis using Ken Rea’s text work methods. You’ll also gain confidence approaching Shakespeare and other classic texts in an accessible and engaging way.
Throughout the term, you’ll continue building a versatile actor’s toolkit, enhancing your confidence, adaptability, and creative courage. The course culminates in an informal showcase, where you’ll share short scenes in pairs or small groups — celebrating progress, strengthening performance confidence, and marking the next step in your development as a performer within the TAL community.
